Practical Path of Exile habits: the taxes most new players keep paying, and what to do instead.
Habit 1: stop paying this tax
Spreading currency across three characters before you have a mapper. Flip it: Follow a current-league written guide for your first character. Inventing a tree on day one is a hobby, not a starter plan.
Habit 2: stop paying this tax
Ignoring flasks. They are a sixth of your build. Flip it: Kill Kitava with a 4-link that actually matches your skill gem. The campaign is a filter.
Habit 3: stop paying this tax
Vendor-ing league-specific currency because the icon was new. Flip it: Cap elemental resistances in maps. This is the classic wipe condition.
Habit 4: stop paying this tax
Skipping the atlas and trying to skip to endgame bosses on a campaign character. Flip it: Use a loot filter. The ground will lie to you otherwise.
Keep a tiny notes file
Write down one map, one loadout, or one setting that worked. PoE players who improve fastest are not the ones with the most tabs open — they are the ones who stop repeating the same wipe.
