Bannerlord Beginner Guide

A first-week plan for Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord: how the loop works, what to do in session one, and the mistakes that waste the most time.

What Bannerlord actually is

Bannerlord mixes real-time battles, a living map, and RPG skills. You start as a nobody with a few recruits and end as a lord or a problem for every kingdom. The loop you will repeat: Recruit, fight looters then bandits, sell loot, join a kingdom or make one, then siege when you can actually feed an army.

Your first session

Do the training and a few tournaments. Personal combat skill keeps you alive when the AI blobs. Buy cheap troops you can replace. Elite stacks wipe to a bad siege. Keep food and wages in the ledger. Starving armies desert. Smithing and workshops are optional money. Fighting and quests are the tutorial economy.

Mistakes that end runs

Declaring a kingdom with 40 troops. You will be dogpiled. Cav-only against a spear wall in a chokepoint. Mix the army. Ignoring influence, relations, and clan parties if you want to be king. Auto-resolving every battle before you understand formation hotkeys.

What 'good' looks like after a week

You should be able to explain Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord's core loop in one sentence, recover from a bad session without rage-reinstalling, and know which mode or map is for learning versus for ego. If you are still lost, re-read the first-session steps instead of hopping to a random viral build.
