COD Beginner Guide

A first-week plan for Call of Duty: how the loop works, what to do in session one, and the mistakes that waste the most time.

What COD actually is

Call of Duty on Steam is the HQ launcher for the current multiplayer, Zombies, and Warzone playlists. Gunfeel is fast; maps are small; the skill is spawn awareness and when not to chase. The loop you will repeat: Warm up in a core playlist, play the objective, then take whatever the current ranked or Warzone mode is without tilting into 12th prestige rage.

Your first session

Set FOV, a usable sensitivity, and disable cinematic motion. COD is an aim trainer with spawn logic. Play Core before Hardcore so you learn TTK, then try Hardcore if you like it. Level guns in matches you can complete. Backing out every death resets more than your mood. Warzone: drop mid-tier, loot a loadout, then rotate. Hot dropping every game is a challenge filter.

Mistakes that end runs

Running the same lane after dying there twice. Spawns flipped. Ignoring the minimap. UAV and footsteps are the game. Equipping a warzone loadout in 6v6 without adjusting. Recoil and handling differ. Buying every battle pass skin before you have a sensitivity you like.

What 'good' looks like after a week

You should be able to explain Call of Duty's core loop in one sentence, recover from a bad session without rage-reinstalling, and know which mode or map is for learning versus for ego. If you are still lost, re-read the first-session steps instead of hopping to a random viral build.
