Overwatch Beginner Guide
A first-week plan for Overwatch 2: how the loop works, what to do in session one, and the mistakes that waste the most time.
What Overwatch actually is
Overwatch 2 is a 5v5 hero shooter. Roles, ultimates, and space matter. A team that groups after a lost fight will beat staggered heroes with better aim. The loop you will repeat: Queue a role, take space with your tank, spend ults together, then reset instead of trickling.
Your first session
Unlock a tank, a DPS, and a support you can play on both payload and control. Watch the kill feed for defensive ults before you press Q. Play Mystery Heroes or unranked until you can track a high ground without getting isolated. Group up. The most important call in Overwatch is still 'group up'.
Mistakes that end runs
Holding ult for a perfect 5-man that never happens. Spend it to win the current fight. Peeking the same choke after two deaths. Change the angle or wait for the tank. Support diff that is actually you standing off-angle with no LOS to the tank. Insta-locking a third hitscan into a dive comp with no peel.
What 'good' looks like after a week
You should be able to explain Overwatch 2's core loop in one sentence, recover from a bad session without rage-reinstalling, and know which mode or map is for learning versus for ego. If you are still lost, re-read the first-session steps instead of hopping to a random viral build.
