STS2 Beginner Guide

A first-week plan for Slay the Spire 2: how the loop works, what to do in session one, and the mistakes that waste the most time.

What STS2 actually is

Slay the Spire 2 is the sequel deckbuilder: climb, draft, fight elites when you can afford them, and respect Act 3 scaling. New characters and co-op options sit on top of the same ruthless math. The loop you will repeat: Path for rest sites and shops, add cards that solve the next act, remove starter strikes, then take the boss with a deck that has a plan.

Your first session

Play the returning characters until pathing and card remove feel automatic. New heroes can wait. Remove Strikes. A thin deck with a plan beats 40 cards of 'maybe'. Elites are rewards if you are healthy and have damage. They are wipes if you are not. If co-op is on, draft as a pair. Two greedy rare piles is two dead climbers.

Mistakes that end runs

Picking every rare. Synergy and energy matter more than the sparkle. Skipping rest sites because you 'feel fine'. Act 2 elites disagree. Hoarding potions into a hallway fight you lose. Use them to take an elite. Ignoring relics that change your energy rule, then wondering why the deck bricks.

What 'good' looks like after a week

You should be able to explain Slay the Spire 2's core loop in one sentence, recover from a bad session without rage-reinstalling, and know which mode or map is for learning versus for ego. If you are still lost, re-read the first-session steps instead of hopping to a random viral build.
