Do I need all DLC?
No. Buy the races you want. The base game is huge; DLC is more lords and units.
WH1/WH2 content?
Immortal Empires combines owned content. Ownership rules are in the store page.
Multiplayer?
Yes, battles and some campaign modes. Most hours are still single-player campaigns.
Best first race?
The Empire or Grand Cathay if you want guns and artillery teaching you the engine.
