Civ 6 Beginner Guide
A first-week plan for Sid Meier's Civilization VI: how the loop works, what to do in session one, and the mistakes that waste the most time.
What Civ 6 actually is
Civilization VI is Firaxis's 4X: settle, district, research, and win by science, culture, domination, religion, or score. The new player trap is building wonders instead of a campus. The loop you will repeat: Settle a city, place districts on bonuses, produce units or buildings, then push a victory path before the AI snowballs.
Your first session
Play a game on Settler/Chieftain with a straightforward civ (Rome, Germany, or whatever the tutorial suggests). Learn district adjacency. A campus next to mountains is the tutorial. Scout early. City-states and second city locations matter more than a turn-20 wonder. Pick a victory type by the medieval era and stop hedging all five.
Mistakes that end runs
Spamming wonders that do not support your win. They are expensive ego. Letting amenities and housing collapse. Unhappy cities do not science. Ignoring eras and civic cards. Policies are free stats. Declaring surprise wars you cannot finish, then wondering why everyone hates you.
What 'good' looks like after a week
You should be able to explain Sid Meier's Civilization VI's core loop in one sentence, recover from a bad session without rage-reinstalling, and know which mode or map is for learning versus for ego. If you are still lost, re-read the first-session steps instead of hopping to a random viral build.
