Cyberpunk Beginner Guide
A first-week plan for Cyberpunk 2077: how the loop works, what to do in session one, and the mistakes that waste the most time.
What Cyberpunk actually is
Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world RPG in Night City. Phantom Liberty and years of patches turned it into the game people wanted at launch. Builds, gigs, and conversations all scale with how you spend shards. The loop you will repeat: Do the main beats until you can roam, pick a combat style, then clear gigs and NCPD scanners until the map is your playground.
Your first session
Play on a difficulty that lets you enjoy driving and talking. Very Hard is a later vanity. Commit to one damage type early (guns, blades, or quickhacks) so perks stack. Explore Watson fully. The game teaches systems in the first district if you let it. Save before big jobs. Dialogue flags matter.
Mistakes that end runs
Ignoring ram and cyberware capacity then wondering why the build feels weak. Selling iconic weapons. Inventory them. Skipping Phantom Liberty if you own it — it is a major chunk of the current game. Treating every civilian as a GTA sandbox in the first hour if you actually wanted the story.
What 'good' looks like after a week
You should be able to explain Cyberpunk 2077's core loop in one sentence, recover from a bad session without rage-reinstalling, and know which mode or map is for learning versus for ego. If you are still lost, re-read the first-session steps instead of hopping to a random viral build.
