ETS2 Beginner Guide

A first-week plan for Euro Truck Simulator 2: how the loop works, what to do in session one, and the mistakes that waste the most time.

What ETS2 actually is

Euro Truck Simulator 2 is SCS's driving job sim. You haul cargo across a stylized Europe, grow a company, and optionally convoy with friends. The skill is patience, parking, and not speeding into a town. The loop you will repeat: Take a job, drive legally-ish, park at the destination, get paid, upgrade the truck, hire drivers if you want a company.

Your first session

Do the training jobs. Reversing is the actual boss fight. Start with short jobs. Fatigue and rest are mechanics. Buy a used truck you can afford, not a maxed Scania on loans you hate. Enable a comfortable camera and a GPS you can glance at. Looking at the map in a roundabout is a dent.

Mistakes that end runs

Speeding in every town then wondering about fines and damage. Skipping rest until the screen blurs. That is the game telling you to park. Taking oversized cargo before you can reverse a standard trailer. Installing 200 truck mods on day one. SCS trucks are already the product.

What 'good' looks like after a week

You should be able to explain Euro Truck Simulator 2's core loop in one sentence, recover from a bad session without rage-reinstalling, and know which mode or map is for learning versus for ego. If you are still lost, re-read the first-session steps instead of hopping to a random viral build.
