A first-week plan for VRChat: how the loop works, what to do in session one, and the mistakes that waste the most time.
What VRChat actually is
VRChat is a social platform of user worlds and avatars. Desktop mode works; VR is better. The product is other people, so moderation tools and instance types matter as much as graphics. The loop you will repeat: Pick a public or friends instance, explore a world, mute what you need, then favorite the spaces that feel like a community.
Your first session
Complete the tutorial and set up Safety: hide avatars that crash you, cap downloads, and learn the mute/block flow. Start in popular worlds with a Friends+ or Invite if public chaos is too much. Desktop users: you can still move, emote, and talk. VR is optional. Do not share personal info. It is still the internet with avatars.
Mistakes that end runs
Maxing avatar download limits on a weak GPU. You will hitch and crash. Assuming every world is SFW. Read the tags and instance type. Following strangers to Invite worlds without a reason. Trust is earned. Ignoring the Quick Menu. It is your shield.
What 'good' looks like after a week
You should be able to explain VRChat's core loop in one sentence, recover from a bad session without rage-reinstalling, and know which mode or map is for learning versus for ego. If you are still lost, re-read the first-session steps instead of hopping to a random viral build.
